Siding Built for Bellingham's Coastal Climate
Bellingham sits right on Bellingham Bay, and that proximity to salt water shapes what exterior siding has to deal with here. Salt-laden air moves inland with the marine breeze, settling on siding, trim, and fasteners in a way that inland Whatcom County homes simply don't experience to the same degree. Add in driving rain that comes sideways off the water during winter storms, and a moss season that can stretch from late fall through spring in the shaded, damp corners of a lot, and you've got a climate that is genuinely hard on the wrong exterior products.
We're a Lynden-based siding, roofing, window, and deck contractor, and we serve Bellingham and the surrounding Whatcom County communities regularly. Working this area day in and day out means we've seen how different siding materials actually hold up here — not in a brochure, but on real homes exposed to real Pacific Northwest weather over years and decades.

Why We Install Only James Hardie Fiber Cement
We made a deliberate decision as a company to install James Hardie fiber cement siding exclusively. We don't install vinyl, LP SmartSide, Cemplank, Allura, primed spruce, or cedar. That's not a marketing angle — it's a standard we hold because of what we've seen happen to other materials in exactly the kind of conditions Bellingham homes face.
- Salt air and moisture: Fiber cement doesn't corrode, warp, or absorb moisture the way wood-based or engineered wood products can. In a bay-adjacent climate, that matters more than most homeowners realize until they've dealt with swelling, delamination, or fastener corrosion firsthand.
- Moss and constant dampness: Extended damp seasons feed moss and mildew growth on any siding that holds moisture at the surface. Hardie's cement composition and factory-applied ColorPlus finish resist that kind of surface breakdown far better than untreated or lightly coated wood substitutes.
- Wind-driven rain: Correct installation — proper flashing, rainscreen gaps where appropriate, and manufacturer-specified fastening — is what actually keeps water out over time. Hardie's HZ5 product line is engineered specifically for high-moisture, high-humidity climates like ours, and we install to that spec on every project.
- Non-combustible: Fiber cement doesn't burn, which matters as wildfire smoke and dry-season risk have become a bigger part of Pacific Northwest summers even in a generally wet region.
None of the products we've stepped away from are inherently bad — vinyl is inexpensive, cedar has real natural appeal, engineered wood has its place. But each comes with trade-offs in moisture behavior, maintenance burden, or long-term durability that we're not willing to install and then have to explain away five or ten years later. Hardie's combination of factory-baked finish, climate-specific product lines, and a strong transferable warranty gives us a product we can stand behind without caveats.
What a Siding Project Looks Like for a Bellingham Home
Every home is different, but the process generally follows the same steps:
- On-site assessment. We look at your current siding, check for moisture damage or rot at vulnerable points (corners, window trim, lower wall sections), and evaluate how exposed your home is to prevailing wind and rain direction.
- Product and color selection. James Hardie's HZ5 lakeside and HardiePlank lap siding come in a range of ColorPlus factory finishes, plus board-and-batten and shingle-style options depending on the look you're after.
- Tear-off and prep. We remove old siding, inspect and repair sheathing where needed, and install a proper weather-resistive barrier before any new material goes up.
- Installation to manufacturer spec. Correct fastener placement, clearances, and flashing details are what separate siding that lasts thirty-plus years from siding that fails early — this is where a lot of installation problems on other homes actually originate.
- Final walkthrough. We go over the finished work with you before calling the job done.
Roofing, Windows, and Decks Alongside Your Siding
Siding rarely fails in isolation. A roof that's shedding water onto a wall, windows with failed flashing, or a deck ledger board holding moisture against the house can all undermine even the best siding job. Because we also handle roofing, window replacement, and deck construction, we can look at your home's full exterior envelope rather than just the siding in front of us — which matters in a climate where water finds every weak point eventually.
A Local Crew That Knows This Weather
We're not a national outfit passing through Whatcom County — we're based in Lynden and work this region continuously. That means we're accountable to the same neighbors, the same weather, and the same reputation year after year. If you're in Bellingham and thinking about your home's siding, roof, windows, or deck, we're happy to take a look and give you an honest read on what your home actually needs — no pressure, no upsell on products we wouldn't put on our own homes.
